The Indian Army on campaign 1900-1939

IEF‘A’ in Postcards

Indian Expeditionary Force ‘A’ arrived in France on 30th September 1914, and was the first significant Imperial reinforcement for the beleaguered BEF.  As with their British Army counterparts, The Officers and Men of the Indian Army were ill-prepared and ill-equipped for the nightmare of the Western Front, and suffered heavy casualties accordingly. Battles such as Ypres, Neuve Chapelle, Festubert, and Givenchy will forever be associated with the contributions made by IEF’A’.
